What are your account's data rules?
Every account comes with data rules: what the product may do with the words you type. May your chats help train future models? How long are records kept? What does the assistant remember later? Those answers decide how protected everything you paste in will be.
The rules attach to the account, not the product. Renee's personal Claude account and her employer's ChatGPT Business account can follow different rules even when both can do the same job, because a workplace owner sets policy for work accounts.
So before a private file enters a conversation, read the product, plan, , and current privacy page for the account you are actually using. Employer policy keeps governing employer work, and a personal account is not a route around it.
