Install Claude and ChatGPT on your computer

When you use Claude or ChatGPT in a browser, you carry your work to the assistant: you paste text in, upload a file, then copy the answer back out. The desktop apps let the assistant work on your files and apps directly. With your permission, an assistant can read a project folder, revise a presentation, or help run software, and still discuss the work with you in chat.

The desktop apps can also learn how you work, if you want them to. Selected activity history can help an assistant find the document you edited yesterday or point out steps you repeat every week. Showing it a familiar task once can teach it the steps for next time. Useful context includes both your material and the way you work with it. Project knowledge saved in your own files stays available to any assistant you use.

Start with work you already want help with. Picking up a half-finished proposal calls for its latest draft; preparing a presentation calls for access to the presentation app. You will install the apps first, then try the features your computer and account support, using only the sources and actions you choose.
