Save your weekly update format for reuse

Step 1 of 5

Create the skill and draft your first weekly update

A skill is a saved set of instructions your assistant uses for recurring work. It can describe the information to use, the format to follow, and the checks to perform. For a weekly update, those instructions might specify sections for accomplishments, decisions, and next steps. Saving the instructions lets you request the same kind of update with a new week's notes. You will save the current rules early, try them on your notes, and keep improving the skill as you discover what your updates need.

The practice update has four sections: Wins, Decisions, Waiting on me, and Next week. Names and dates appear in bold, and items waiting more than two days are flagged so they are easy to notice. Your own notes supply the facts. These requirements are enough to create an initial skill. Review its first draft against your notes, then update the saved instructions with improvements you want future updates to follow.

The checked update supplies the format and checks the skill will reuse.

Create a reusable skill named weekly-update with the skill creator available here (/skill-creator in Claude Code when installed, or $skill-creator in Codex), using the format below. If a creator is unavailable, use the supported skill-building method here or give me the instructions to save. Then use the skill to build my weekly update. If my recent notes or messages are available to read, use this past week; otherwise ask me to paste my rough notes. Use these sections in this order: Wins, Decisions, Waiting on me, and Next week. Put any person's name or date in bold. Under Waiting on me, flag anything that has sat for more than two days. Keep the tone plain and direct, with no hype. Close by stating my Monday priority and the next action it needs. Lay it out as a clean, readable page I could share as is.
