Write AI requests with clear goals and sources

“Write my weekly client update” leaves the assistant guessing which notes to use, how long to write, and whether to send anything. The assistant needs context: the information available to it for this job. A fuller request for Dana could read: “Use the attached project notes to help Dana decide whether Thursday’s launch can proceed. Draft a subject line and an email body under 120 words. Support status claims from the notes and mark missing facts. Leave it as a draft.”

In that request, Dana’s decision sets the goal. The notes supply the facts. The word limit and “leave it as a draft” set limits, and “subject line and email body” names the output. Include the details that would change the work. A simple rewrite with its source already attached may need only a short request. If you cannot yet say what the result is for, the assistant can ask you what the reader will do with it before drafting.
